The Channel Islands has a large amount of farmed land and much of the countryside consists of this type of habitat and so it is vital that the farming community contributes to the success of insect pollinators across our Island which will benefit both themselves and the environment. The general lack of flower-rich field margins and the use of pesticides have contributed to a reduced diversity and numbers of both flower and insect species locally but hopefully through schemes such as the LEAF Marque certification this could start to be reversed and help enhance the habitat required for pollinators in and around rural farming habitat.
Across the Channel Islands the farming community is integral to helping populations of all the different pollinators.
