Due to the pressure to produce food for a rapidly growing human population agricultural pesticides and herbicides are still being used far too widely and frequently.
The Channel Islands are trying to reduce their use and much good work has been done so far but still a range of chemicals are applied to crops across the Island and some of these may have a negative effect on insect pollinators whom either ingest these when feeding or are directly sprayed with these chemicals.
Herbicidal chemicals are also too often used on private land and with many insect pollinators these days increasingly being reliant on gardens then their use can be very detrimental to them.
